Fossil Week

Sat 1 Jun 2013

1 - 4pm £3 adults / free for children, CT9 families and Coastal Dinosaurs talk ticket holders

Dr Alasdair Bruce, aka ‘Rock Doc’, and the Rock Doc team and experts host an afternoon of fossil discovery. Come and have your fossil identified by the fossil experts, who are on hand to tell you more about your findings.

You can come to the Fossil Fair for free if you buy a ticket to our Coastal Dinosaurs talk taking place on the same day at 12 noon.

The coastline of Thanet has a wealth of wonderful scenery and important fossil discoveries to its name. Famous names such as Charles Darwin have worked here and the worldwide understanding of the ancient world was advanced by the work done on Thanet’s coastline.

The Rock Doc team, Dr Alasdair Bruce and his wife Kim Bruce, are well known locally for promoting the geology of Thanet and coastal appreciation in the area for the last 10 years, to adults and children alike. They are also known for their work in the world of news, documentary and film.
Dr Alasdair Bruce says 'As a teenager, I cut my teeth in the world of palaeontology on the wonderful chalk fossils of the Thanet coast and other locations around the south-east. It would be great if other budding fossil hunters are inspired by this event and go on to explore what our coastline has to offer.

We have been involved in similar fairs around the country including the fossil road shows in Canterbury, and are very proud to be collaborating with Turner Contemporary to put on Thanet’s first ever fossil fair.
We hope to see the public bringing along a wide range of fossils to be indentified, enjoy those that are on display and join in the interactive events and lectures.’
