  • This competition is open to students aged 4-18 or staff from educational settings in Kent and Medway (this includes but is not limited to Nurseries, Schools and FE Colleges, Home Education, Special Education Units, Pupil Referral Units, Young Offenders Institutions and Adult Education. It does not include Universities except in the case of students currently engaged in teacher training courses, who are eligible to take part). By submitting your entry to Portfolio, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and the competitor agrees to abide by the rules.
  • Entries are limited to one per person.
  • No responsibility will be accepted for any lost or damaged entries.
  • The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Entrants must own the copyright to, or have all the necessary rights to use the pictures/text they submit.
  • While entrants retain copyright and ownership of pictures/text submitted, Portfolio and its partners will be granted free use of these pictures/text as they decide.
  • Where photos of people are submitted, you agree to having first obtained the consent of those people wherever possible and if applicable. If children up to the age of 16 are featured the consent of their parent/guardian/carer is needed. It is your responsibilty to obtain and record all photographic consent linked to your competition entry.
  • Prizes are non-transferable and there are no cash alternatives.
  • These rules may be amended if deemed necessary and entrants may seek clarification of these rules if needed.
  • Portfolio cannot accept entries from immediate family members of Turner Contemporary, Primary Times or Canterbury Christ Church University staff or competition judges.
  • All entrants must be undertaking education within Kent or be a member of staff at a Kent based educational establishment. As well as Schools and Colleges this includes but is not limited to Home Education, Special Education Units, Pupil Referral Units, Young Offenders Institutions and Adult Education. However it does not include Universities.
  • Entries will be shortlisted by Turner Contemporary staff prior to the judging evening.
  • Entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not have been published elsewhere.
  • Final exam pieces that have yet to be marked should not be submitted to the competition. These are the property of the exam board until marking and moderation have taken place, and should not be viewed by anyone else ahead of that time.
  • All entries are reviewed before being published. We will not publish entries that are obscene, pornographic, contain swearing or could reasonably be deemed offensive. We reserve the right not to publish work.
  • Entrants wishing to submit a film work should host the work on a film sharing platform such as Vimeo (www.vimeo.com) or Youtube (www.youtube.com) and provide a link to the film work rather than submit a file. Film work will be moderated prior to acceptance. Acceptance of files submitted in this way does not indicate Turner Contemporary’s endorsement of other materials held on an individual’s profile on a film sharing platform. Turner Contemporary reserves the right to not publish video entries from channels which contain material that breeches competition terms (including material uploaded at a later date).
