    Timothy Spall at Turner Contemporary

On the evening of Friday 24 January 2014, actor Timothy Spall opened Turner Contemporary's spring 2014 exhibition Making Painting.

Known for roles in the Harry Potter films, The King's Speech and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet amongst many others, Spall will play the role of JMW Turner in the Mike Leigh film, Mr Turner, to be released later in 2014.

At the launch event, Spall told an audience of gallery supporters and Margate businesses of his affection for Margate and for Turner.

"This place gave Turner ignited his visual mind and captured his soul. He created something original. Symbolically this gallery is the living thriving embodiment of this. It’s a fulcrum for a reemerging Margate. Margate won’t lie down. It’s going from strength to strength. I feel privileged to be part of it. Here’s to you Margate and Turner Contemporary!”

The exhibition is open until 11 May 2014.
