  • Harriet Harman at Turner Contemporary Manu Palomeque

Harriet Harman MP, Labour’s Deputy Leader and Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, visited Margate on Tuesday 25 June where she was given a tour of Turner Contemporary before meeting staff and local businesses involved in the ‘Curious Margate’ project.

Harriet Harman visited the gallery to see first hand how the arts can help to regenerate an area and commented "[Turner Contemporary] is an absolutely great example of real vision for the future, where art can help with regeneration. It was a really bold move because a lot of people were sceptical about it."
This summer the gallery will welcome its millionth visitor since opening in April 2011 and in that time the gallery has added £21.1m to the regional economy.
