The second Folkestone Triennial begins this month and to celebrate, Creative Foundation and Turner Contemporary have teamed up with Time Out to create a special guide to both Folkestone and Margate with a particular focus on the creative quarters in both towns.

Folkestone Time Out Guide

Folkestone Triennial 25 June - 25 September 2011
A Million Miles from Home

The Folkestone Triennial seeks to engage and inspire the communities of the town while also finding a fresh way of bringing contemporary art to the fore.

Curated by Andrea Schlieker, A Million Miles from Home refers to the sense of being between worlds, of displacement and separation, of transience and having to find bearings in an unknown elsewhere.

Nineteen international artists have been commissioned to create new works for Folkestone’s streets, squares, beaches and historic buildings, using the town as their ‘canvas’, utilising public spaces to create striking pieces that reflect issues affecting both the town and the wider world.

Creative Foundation is a charity based in Folkestone which is leading a large scale renewal of the old town area close to the scenic harbour.

Hamish Fulton
Shore – Line. A Slow Walk Facing the Sea

Public Group Walk, Saturday 2 July 2011

'Walking is an art form in its own right, it does not have to be a lesser form of land art.'
Hamish Fulton

Join artist Hamish Fulton as he leads a group walk on the site of the old Folkestone Rotunda Amusement Park, a now deserted expanse of land leading to the pebble beach.

Walkers will stand side-by-side facing the sea and be asked to make a 4.5 metre walk last exactly an hour. The entire walk will be made in silence.

Fulton explain, "This communal walk is neither sculptural nor a performance. The walking participant is both the art and viewer. On completion of the walk the Rotunda site will return to being an empty public space."

To take part, book your place with the Quaterhouse Box Office: 01303 858500. Spaces are limited. Minimum age of 16 years.
