Kids take over Turner Contemporary
Saturday 11 June 2016, 11am - 4pm

Come and  join us on 11 June to celebrate our ambitious 18 month schools, gallery and community project ‘Art Inspiring Change’. The project will culminate in July 2017 with 4 new regenerative artworks in Margate devised and created by local primary school children.

The day will be a fun uplifting occasion where the children plan, organise and lead the proceedings in the gallery.

Here is an outline of the day:

11am - 1pm – 80 children from 4 Margate Primary schools will lead workshops at 4 positions around the gallery. Visiting adults and children will be encouraged to get involved and get creative. Expect 4 completely different activities! On the terrace there will be skipping, hopscotch and a Speakers Corner – everyone can have the opportunity to tell Margate what improvements they would like to see.

We will also be offering all children the opportunity to get their Arts Award ‘Discover’ in a day.

1 - 2pm – School choirs from Palm Bay, Salmestone, Northdown and Holy Trinity & St John’s will be singing in the Sunley Gallery space

2 - 2.30pm – Speeches

2.30 - 4pm – World Café in the Clore Learning Studio (8 tables set up with different questions. The Young Art Leaders will  host and encourage visitors to discuss the questions and have a meaningful conversation about what they mean. Potential questions could be – ‘Are you ever 'grown up?' or ‘Can getting lost be a good thing?’)
