Generate a great success

To celebrate the success and to mark the end of Thanet Works- Family Fit, a celebration day was held on the grounds of Thanet College on Friday 30 July.

As project partners we were invited to hold a workshop. All Family Fit participants were invited to the event including the 340 participants who attended our 13 Generate workshops (held during Dec 09-Jul 10) at schools and children’s centres across Thanet.

We had 45 Adults and children decorating flower pots, which then were planted with summer herbs grown from the Millmead Allotment project.

On Thursday 5 August artist Sara Wicks and Tina Roskruge led a Generate workshop at Dane Park as part of Engage’s Summer Blast event. 55 people took part making a “tree tent” full of imaginary wildlife & birds.

Despite the heavy clouds Generate were at Joss Bay on Wednesday 18th August as part of Engage’s Beach Blast event.

Artists Ian Bottle, Andy Malone and their children constructed an elaborate water tunnel which started halfway up the beach and with the help of the public it eventually went all the way to the sea!

We had 46 people, many of which stayed for the full 2 hours digging trenches and building contraptions. A great day!

As well as Generate the Intergenerational group set up a stall spreading the myth of ‘Margate Maud’ by creating stories with the public about a mythical lady whose ghost can be seen walking along the Margate sands. The young people decided to build a sand sculpture of Margate Maud with the help of the public.

Overall during the summer period from June onwards 246 people have attended our workshops.
