Since opening in April 2011, we have welcomed over 250,000 visitors to Turner Contemporary. Over 21,000 school children, families and community groups have visited our exhibitions and learning events and a real rejuvenation is happening in our hometown of Margate.

"At last Kent has a status symbol in the art world. I can now travel to Margate to view Turner! Just brilliant and a great boost."
Gallery visitor

"It's one of the best things I’ve been able to do for years."
Margaret Anderson, participant of Cultural Ambassadors and Blank Canvas

"Richard feels important again and his life is changing thanks to the course."
Joe Newman, brother and carer of a Cultural Ambassadors participant

“The Turner effect is really being felt – we’ve noticed a massive rise in footfall, and not just at peak times. We get lots of customers from London but also many local people who have never been to this part of Margate. All of them are buzzing about it.”
Sally Parkes, owner Gate vintage and gift shop in Margate Old Town

“People who say Margate has had its day should compare it to 15 years ago. It’s definitely not done yet.”
Bob Haynes, Manager of S.H. Cutting specialist jewellers in Margate Old Town

“It’s brilliant. I’ve been looking forward to seeing it and it works really well. All credit to the Turner for getting it here. Whey they first started talking about it, I thought it’s not going to regenerate the town. The town was dying. But it has and I hold my hands up.”
Bon Conell, retired fireman from Broadstairs on Rodin's The Kiss
