At Turner Contemporary, adults and children can have fun enjoying creative activities together in a friendly and stimulating environment. See all family events >
Activities are inspired by our exhibition Curiosity: Art and the Pleasures of Knowing (25 May - 15 September 2013) and Juan Muñoz's Conversation Piece III currently on display in our Sunley Gallery.
'I visited the Turner Contemporary to take part in one of the painting the elements workshops and just wanted to let you know how much my children enjoyed it. Thank you so much for putting on such a wonderful event, it was their favourite activity of the holiday. They were so excited about the exhibition that they wanted to take their Dad and we went back at the weekend. As an art student graduate, it really gives me a lot of pleasure to see my children so interested in art and we are very grateful to have such a brilliant gallery so close by.'

Make your visit even more fun with this free self-guided activities:
Bird Studies
25 May - 15 September Tuesday to Sunday, 10am - 6pm (subject to availability)
The artist Turner’s bird studies were all drawn from real specimens. Create your own drawings inspired by birds from the Powell-Cotton Museum, which have travelled from nearby Birchington to the gallery.
Every week, you can enjoy activities together at our Easy Sundays workshops.
The school breaks are made extra fun with our creative Easy Holidays workshops. Plus, regularly each season on a Saturday, you can try new craft skills at Craft Club.
Our friendly Navigators are there to lend you a hand, simply turn up on the day and enjoy making your own artwork.

Add your photos of being creative at Turner Contemporary to our Generate Flickr pool at www.flickr.com/groups/tcgenerate
Generate is an artist-led project that explores and promotes the creative exchange between
generations, through art making activities.
In 2007, we began work with 12 East Kent based artists to document the process of making art work with their children and the impact this has on their practice as professional artists.
The artists have been struck by their children’s confidence and pace of work and ideas. Children have inspired their parents through making unexpected connections between ideas and materials, and being able to make work in any environment. Communication and play are central themes to the project.
Each year, we’ve held a Generate exhibition to showcase the work created by the artists and their children. Take a look here.
We have held over 60 free artist-led workshops for parents and children in Thanet. At each workshop, our Generate artists work creatively with their own children, introducing the opportunity for local families to make artwork together, share ideas and try new things in a relaxed and friendly community setting. The workshops have taken place at Children’s Centres, shopping arcades, community centres, parks and on Margate beach.
Take a look at past Generate workshops in our project archive.
Generate DVD
We have created a Generate DVD that can be used as a creative tool by parents and teachers. We distributed the DVD free of charge to Children’s Centres in early 2009. Download the resource here.
